History of AMVJ and Martinus
AMVJ
AMVJ has had several home bases since its foundation. First of all, the home of AMVJ, as part of the omni-sports club AMVJ, was the AMVJ building on Leidsche Bosje. In the 60s AMVJ moved to "De Oude RAI", then to "De Kleine RAI", and then to the "Apollohal". Eventually we ended up in Amstelveen in 1971, first in the Bankrashal and since 1986 "the Deltalloyd sports center" was the home base. The name of this location was later changed to "Emergohal".
From 1970 to the summer of 1994, the name AMVJ was inextricably linked to that of the main sponsor Delta Lloyd. After 25 years of sponsorship, unique in the sports world, Delta Lloyd decided to stop as the main sponsor. After a few short periods with new sponsors, AMVJ has been playing without a main sponsor since 2001.
Martinus
Volleyball club St. Martinus was founded in 1954 by the soccer department of St. Martinus. Thus an Omni-association St. Martinus was created, consisting of four independent departments: football, badminton, tennis and volleyball. Since 1976, the club has developed independently of the other three departments.
In the sixties and seventies, with the main sponsor Valkenberg as 3rd divisionist, Martinus played a modest role in national volleyball, but in the eighties the club became known both nationally and internationally through the many successes achieved by the first men's team. From 1983 to 1988, Martin, with the main sponsor Brother among the men, was national champion five times in a row and the European Cup 1 - final was reached three times. This was mainly due to the attraction of one of the world's best trainers Arie Selinger. The fast Martinus game with technical highlights was feared by every opponent throughout Europe. The relapse began in 1989 when the volleyball association decided that the players of the national team were no longer allowed to play for a club. Because three-quarters of Orange consisted of Martinus players, not much was left of men 1. These Martinus players formed the basis for success at the Olympic Games in 1992 when the Orange won the silver medal in Barcelona. Four years later, gold was still won by the same ex-Martinian in Atlanta.
VV Amstelveen
On 15 June 2011, both of the above associations were officially merged in the merger meeting and continued together under the association name vv AMstelveen. As is the case in sports, the results vary per team and season, but what has proved to be a success is that the two associations have actually merged into one new association.
AMVJ-Martinus
